Michael Wong over at BigMoneyList got links from 300 blogs to his own blog in the first week, took it from PR0 - PR5 first Google update, by which time he’d got links from over 1000 blogs.
Debunks several myths, for example that linking out too much bleeds PR juice, and confirms what we all knew - that writing personal content that really helps folk brings traffic, especially when helped by a few marketing ideas by a guy who did SEO for a PR9 site. The world’s biggest blogroll, hmm, I’ve got a PR-scalable version of that that might just work…

Wow. Thats some pretty good Pagerank.
Were any of the links paid? Or simply just a reference inside a post, website, etc.

Nope, no paid links or anything like that. My understanding is he just wrote comments on an awful lot of blogs asking if they’d like to be on his blogroll, asking at the same time if they might put his blog on their blogroll also.
Paid links are for people with a budget who need to game the system - if you can make good content and spread the word you can get the same results without having to pay much at all. Good, free content gets links more than anything else, pay to try and beat Google, or go free and you’ll have no need to - because your best strategy will then be to do exactly what Google wants anyway - make good content.
Back in the day I went from new site to PR7 first update, high PR needs a lot more genuine authority behind it now than it did then, but what did I get - a longer green bar, whoopy-doopy. Sure, the chance for text link ad income is nice, but if you just keep reaching out to people and most importantly, justify it by giving back something worthwhile: ie. good content, good will, linkbaiting with worthwhile bait - “bait” is another self-centred word - just giving something really worthwhile, it’s perfectly doable.
Good talking, thanks for the comments

This is link building at its best if you ask me. It appears the Big G isn’t placing more weight on reciprocal links anymore so such method may no longer work today. I applaud his effort to create “the world biggest blogroll”… nice work indeed.
